Why Indians celebrate Mahashivrati ?

The fourteenth day of every lunar month or a day before full moon is called as Shivratri. Out of 12 shivratris that occur in a calender year, Mahashivratri that occurs during Feb-March is of a spiritual significance. On this day, there is a natural upsurge of internal energies within human being which can help him / her to evolve spiritually.

On this special night, human being is required to be awake in sitting or meditating position so that his spine is vertical and he or she gets all the benefits for spiritual awakening and progress.

Universe is divided into light and dark. Darkness occupies maximum portion of universe. Immatured minds may think darkness as evil. But darkness is all pervading. Darkness is source of light and life.
